Demand McDonald’s raise wages to $15+/hr NOW
In 2020, Chris Kempczinski, president and CEO of McDonald’s Corp., received a total compensation of $10.8 million, a drastic 1,189:1 reported ratio of CEO-to-median-employee pay (1). Meanwhile, the average crew member working 40 hours a week, is making $15,080 BEFORE taxes (2). No wonder McDonald’s employees are among the top beneficiaries of Medicaid and food stamps (3).
In an attempt to save face given mounting public pressure, McDonald’s recently announced that entry-level employees will be making $11 to $17 per hour, and shift managers will make $15 to $20 an hour, based on location (4). BUT that only accounts for the restaurants owned directly by the corporation — leaving workers in 95% of their restaurants out in the cold (5).
Workers are striking, demanding $15/hr NOW, nothing less.
McDonald’s states in their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statements:
“When we talk about equity in the workplace, we mean fair treatment in access, opportunity and advancement for all….
When we harness our scale to change the system, there’s no telling how much of an impact we can make (6).”
In light of these values, there’s no reason for McDonald’s to wait any longer. What’s more, CEO Kempczinski, said the corporation would be “just fine” if/when Congress raises the minimum wage. But why should workers have to wait to be able to put food on the table, pay rent, and receive adequate health care? With $5 billion in profits last year, the corporation can afford to do the right thing NOW.
Add your name now to demand McDonald’s pay all their workers $15+/hr and respect union rights NOW.
